RE: RV safety around New Orleans???????????

We were in New Orleans March of 2007. We didn't feel threatened. Finding a place to park our big truck we pull the 5th wheel with there was an issue, but got the job done. And, finding a rest room while visiting N.O. can be a bigger issue. We camped at Hattiesburg, Miss. which is about a 2 hour drive. And coming in from the east we found the highway to be like a washboard. Hopefully they have repaired it by now. I would camp away from NO & just visit there for a day as we did. I don't think it is any more dangerous than any other city, just have to use your common sense & hopefully don't be in the wrong place at the wrong time.:( I am very sorry to hear of Allen's friend being shot there. Wow! How horrible.
I am wondering about the flooding there in the next few weeks when all the snow melt & excessive rain starts down the Mississippi River.

RE: Manhattan Kansas - Quick Trip

There is a nice campground area about 30 miles south of Manhattan. It is Council Grove Lake. I believe it is a St. Park. Easy in & out. You might look it up on Google. We have stayed there many times. Interesting little town & great river walk down town.

You might try Storie Lake CG. We stayed there three years ago. It was clean, not anything exciting, but ok for a day or two.

Land Between the Lakes

We are headed to Land Between the Lakes in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know about flooding there? The Weather person out of St. Louis says be prepared for a long wet Spring, I didn't like the sound of that!

RE: table rock state park site suggestions

There is a swimming Beach not far from the State Park. If I were you I would call the # I gave you & check out just what flood damage has occurred. The weather man didn't sound too optimistic about the flooding stopping any time soon this Spring. They can give you info on a good site for next summer also.

RE: Best campground to stay in Myrtle Beach...

We stayed at Myrtle Beach State Park in March last year & loved it. Of course the weather was perfect. They do have some full hookups there. It is a short walk to the Beach.
We thought it very pretty.

RE: table rock state park site suggestions

Table Rock St. Park is great. Nice walking/biking trails, across from the Marina. About 6 miles from Branson across the dam.
cschmid@mail.state.mo.us 417-334-4704 better make reservations ($6-17 last year)
COE Campground is just down the road from there & it is also nice. It has water, electricity & dumpstation. $$??
If you want to be on Lake Taneycomo & close to the new Landing--try--Branson Lakeside RV Park (city of Branson) campground@cityofbranson.org 417-334-2915 Restrooms & showers. ($21 last year)
If you like fishing you might try Cooper Creek 800-261-8398 www.coopercreekcampground.com ($20-23 last year)
Hope this helps you. We have been going to Branson since the early 1960s, so if you need more info let me know.

RE: Best Myrtle Beach Campground Beach

We stayed at Myrtle Beach State park last March. The campground is in the woods with a short walk to the beach. We loved it there. You might give that some consideration. Most sites have water & electricity, but a few with full hook up also. I am not sure what it will be like in the summer, but it was great last spring. Google it up, I think it has pictures, ect.

You might try Weston Bend State Park. About 30 miles north.
Weston is a small town near by with Antique stores, winerys, ect.
1-816-640-5443 if you need to find out more. I don't know if they take reservations or not.

RE: Early June in Missouri?

We stay at Smithvill Lake. (North of KC) Decent campground below the dam. Are you coming from Neb.? If you are on I-29, you will go into Platte City. At Platte City take 92 hwy. East. It will take you right into Smithville. In Smithville turn left at the first stop light. Go to the next stop light (165) turn right & stay on this road it will take you right to the lake. You will see the signs.

RE: Branson

The kids will love riding the Ducks! We are on our 2nd generation to do this.
One show I would recommend is Magnificent Seven at the White House. For $6/7 more you can get a wonderful dinner. Don't be afraid to order the steak it is good. We have been there 3 times & the food & service are always great, as is the show, which is variety.
I believe you will like Treasure Island. Is is in a good location. It is next door to an Imax, which we always take in when there.
Table Rock State Park has walking trails on the Lake, great for the kids & if you like hiking.
SDC is fun also, but can be tiring for the little ones, but lots of rides & shows for them. You may be able to get tickets on line cheaper. Give it a try. I think ticket prices are around $35-40 now? Worldfest is at SDC from April 3 to May 4--well worth seeing.
Also the kids may enjoy Celebration City. (I wouldn't, but I am old!)
A cheap but funny show is the Comedy Show next to the Big Buffet (which would be a good place to eat). Comedy Jamboree at Grand Country Music Hall.
You will also learn to follow the blue/red/yellow roads to avoid the 76 Strip. Just remember if you get caught on 76 in the very slow moving traffic to take a deep breath & relax---cause you aren't going anywhere fast. So allow extra time to get where ever you are going!
There are magic shows that kids always love.
We go down about three times a year. We started going to Branson around 1964 with our children. (That was when you didn't have to pay to get into SDC!) Now we are raising Grandchildren & take them with us also.
You will want to visit the the New Landing on Lake Taneycomo. Take in the fountain show after dark.
If you have any questions for me just mail me.
Have fun.

RE: Need some CrockPot dinner ideas for this Solo RVer.

Here is an easy dinner & it is quite good.
Tamale Dinner:
16 oz. of tamales Doritos
Green onions Chili
Grated Cheese Grated Cheese
Layer in casserole in order given. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 mi.
(I layer this & heat it in the microwave & I usually don't add onions.)
Chicken & Rice
Frozen Chicken Breast, cut the amount you will eat into strips.
Drop in crock pot on High
In the mean time cook as much Instant rice as you will eat, say 2 cups?
Add cream of mushroom soup to cooked rice, stir together
Stir into the chicken in the crockpot
Place crockpot on low & cook till bubbly.
You may add slivered almonds if you like.
You are ready to eat
Those are two easy recipes I hope you will try

RE: Long Branch S P Missouri

That would be at Macon, Mo off 36? It is a very nice park. If so,I think you would enjoy it. There is Perching St. State Park, Watkins Mill off I-35, Wallace off I-35. We have only stayed at Watkinks Mill & Long Branch, they are fine. The others I don't know. Probably just go to Google & look up the Map of Mo. State parks.

RE: Nice rv park/resort near Branson/Springfield/Bull Shoals

You won't find a nicer place to stay than on Table Rock Lake at Table Rock State Park, but no luxeries. pretty, right on the Lake across from the marina & very nice walking trails. The Campground is across the dam & 6 miles into Branson from there. Make reservations, ask for full hook ups. It won't be open right now of course, & most CG.won't be open until spring.
